Tuakiri

“Tuakiri” is a bold painting exploring identity through the colours of Tino Rangatiratanga—red, black, white, and hints of grey. Inspired by the ngutukākā design, its mirrored patterns form a kōwhaiwhai, symbolising balance, whakapapa, and connection. Black reflects Te Kore, the void of creation; red represents life and strength; while white and grey symbolise knowledge and growth. “Tuakiri” is a visual story of identity, sovereignty, and cultural pride, inviting reflection on belonging and self-determination.
